Barn Swallow

As its name suggests, the Barn Swallow is more than willing to associate with humans
and their structures. Its preference for building its mud and grass nests on buildings,
beneath bridges and under the eaves of houses makes it a common sight around the
city. If a pair starts to build a nest on your property, try providing a wet patch from
which they can collect mud—it is fascinating to watch them at close range. The Barn
Swallov/s deeply forked tail contributes to its impressive manoeuverability—an
invaluable attribute when catching insects on the wing.
