Gadwall

The Gadwall was not known to breed in Vancouver until J 966, when a few pairs with
their young were found in the Fraser River delta. At present, the Vancouver area sup-
ports a population of over 200 breeding pairs, and these birds can be found here year-
round. The George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary provides excellent winter and
nesting habitat for the Gadwall. Some Gadwall that breed in the interior of B.C seek
the milder coast around Vancouver to spend the winter.
